In institutions around the UK, we are addressing scientific and technical challenges to gain a better understanding of our Universe through the NSF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory.
Located on a mountaintop in Chile, the Rubin Observatory sits at 2,647 metres above sea level. This brand new astronomical facility officially launched its Legacy Survey of Space and Time on 29 June 2026.
Launched on 29 June 2026 Rubin is conducting a 10-year survey of the southern sky. Known as the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), it uses the largest digital camera ever built.
As a key collaborator in the US-led project, LSST:UK is helping to make this groundbreaking survey possible.
LSST:UK is funded by the Science and Technologies Facilities Council (STFC).
